Ivan M Suarez Castellanos was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1987. He received his B.Sc. degree in biomedical engineering and M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the George Washington University in Washington, DC (United States) in 2010 and 2012, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at George Washington University in 2017 for his work in exploring the dynamics involved in the stimulation of insulin release from pancreatic beta cells using therapeutic ultrasound.
He has experience in various research areas including medical instrumentation, diagnostic radiology, therapeutic ultrasound, and regulatory science, in addition to several projects in collaboration with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He joined LabTAU as a postdoc immediately after finishing his Ph.D. in the summer of 2017 and is now working in a project aimed at studying and understanding the mechanims involved (at the cellular level) in ultrasound neurostimulation.
  • Chateaubriand Fellowship: STEM & Health, 2015-2016
The Chateaubriand Fellowship is a yearly grant offered by the Embassy of France in the United States, allowing doctoral students enrolled in American universities to conduct research in France for 4 to 9 months.
  • ORISE (Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education) Fellowship, 2010-2013
ORISE is a U.S. Department of Energy institute focusing on scientific initiatives to research health risks from occupational hazards, assess environmental cleanup, respond to radiation medical emergencies, support national security and emergency preparedness, and educate the next generation of scientists.
